Mon 12th August, 2002 13:00 - New Mail Server - Lance Davis

There has been a problem with the new mail server relaying mail this
morning for dialled in users - caused by a file being updated in the
chrooted postfix environment when it was being accessed outside of it :(
- the problem has now been resolved

The new mail server now seems to be working well for sending outgoing
mail, although there may be a slight difference in configuration for
free account users who insist on using SMTP AUTH when it is unnecessary
because they are dialled in - the difference being that they will now
only be able to authenticate for SMTP using the same username that they
used to dial in.

There are still users trying to relay mail who are not in the
authentication database and need to update their password, we are
contacting those that try - to advise them.

I am still testing the pop3 service on the new server - if you want to
try it then its is on port 1101 on smtp.uklinux.net , but it will only
have your old mail spool (if any) - it isnt getting live incoming mail
yet.

There are also people still trying to access pop3 email on
smtp.uklinux.net .....

Lance
