I have put a temporary fix in place which is solving the problem - (which 
is that Energis somewhere are filtering icmp mtu path discovery protocol
packets :(  )

The temporary solution has been to reduce the mtu on our servers whilst we
await a fix from Energis - now that they have accepted that the problem is
theirs :)<p>
